l-powellFor the past 25 years, Leonard H. Powell has served in a variety of roles as an internal and external organization development consultant. Currently, he is President and owner of Powell Consulting Group, a management consulting corporation that specializes on Energizing the Human Potential in Organizations. This feat is accomplished by helping leaders as well as individual contributors adopt fresh perspectives on organization processes and generate energy to transform organizational processes into high performing systems. The locus of this work targets corporate visioning, strategic planning, process improvement, change management, organizational assessments, teambuilding, conflict resolution, leadership and followership training and development, personal development, executive coaching and building diversity competent cultures.

Mr. Powell designs and delivers an array of training courses which expand the capacity of individuals, teams and organizations. An expert facilitator, Mr. Powell has extensive experience in aligning unions and management to work together to resolve difficult and contentious issues. He services are routinely sought by corporations, associations, non-profit organizations, and federal, state and local governments who need help working through tough process, performance and people issues.

An entrepreneur, Mr. Powell owns and operates, Powell’s Marina located in Deltaville, Virginia. He is a partner and president of DESU, Inc. an importer of seafood. He owns rental properties in Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia. Additionally, he owns significant acreage of prime waterfront property that is ripe for development.

A career military officer, Mr. Powell served in variety of assignments including commanding officer, staff intelligence officer and organization development officer. During his last five years of military service, he lead and directed the management studies.

Michael Powell, Vice President

m-powellMike Powell is the Vice President of Organizational Development and Training for the Powell Consulting Group. Drawing from his unique life experiences, and lessons learned during a diverse career that includes positions in the Federal Government, Higher Education, Hospitality, Non-Profit, and Retail sales industries, Mike helps individuals and groups to energize their potential and expand their capacity for success. Utilizing his background in management and program analysis, he has helped organizations implement effective solutions to critical challenges such as strategic planning, enrollment management, customer service, fundraising, team-building, and leadership & professional development.

Most recently, Mike served as a Management Analyst for the U.S. Department of Education. In this position he assessed the effectiveness of the enterprise risk management program at the Office of Federal Student Aid. A dynamic speaker and trainer, Mr. Powell has designed and delivered training programs for local and Federal Government agencies, professional organizations, colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, and publicly traded companies. He is a certified Federal Government Contract Officer Representative. He is also certified by Multi-Health Systems Inc. in the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory, a scientifically validated measure of Emotional Intelligence.

Mike Powell is a graduate of Hampton University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Southeastern University where he earned his Master’s in Business Administration. He has also completed Post-graduate work in Strategic Leadership at Regent University. He has recently completed training at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland where he learned to apply the principals of Gestalt psychology, and Systems Thinking in organizations.

Darryl Howell, Vice President – Systems Engineering and Integration Division

d-howellDarryl Howell is Vice President of the Systems Engineering and Integration Division. Prior to joining PCG, Mr. Howell served as a Senior Systems Engineer and Program Manager for Whitney, Bradley and Brown Inc. and Titan Corporation for 10 over years. In those roles, he provided stellar leadership in managing and providing expert operational/technical support of the Navy Air and Missile Defense Command, the Single Integrated Air Picture Joint Program Office (SIAP JPO) and several Future Naval Capability Programs for the Office of Naval Research. Darryl is a visionary leader who commands tremendous respect at both the strategic and operational levels. Joining his family’s business at PCG to head this division is a continuation of his quest of progressively challenging assignments.

For the last 20 years, Mr. Howell has also served the United States Navy on Active Duty and as a Reservist. Mr. Howell held a number of operational and staff positions including assignments in Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) N81 (Assessment) & N86 (Surface Warfare), Commander Second Fleet (C2F) and SIAP JPO. At the SIAP JPO, he was responsible for technology identification and development for all Systems of Systems (SoS) elements and components. Mr. Howell was recalled by name to Active Duty to lead a team of 48 highly talented engineers in the design and acquisition of cutting edge technologies totaling $23M. In 2008, he was selected as SIAP Joint Military Officer of the Year.

Mr. Howell graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering and Johns Hopkins University with a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering. He is a dynamic motivational speaker and community leader. Mr. Howell is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association, the National Society of Black Engineers and the youth director for a 4,000 member church in Northern Virginia.
